Well hello there… pour yourself three fingers of the good stuff and sit on down. Welcome to the windy city and Rich Harvest Farms just south of the city. It is a wet day and we are playing lift clean and place today. Lush and green is how the course is looking. It has been 5 weeks, but I am happy to see you again.
Cam Smith rolls in an early eagle so it seems like his putter travels well. He is your coleader early with Brendan Steele at 2 under.
Matthew Wolff has seized the lead at 5 under par. The course is soft and very receptive, but that softness isn’t allowing any rollout in the fairways so the longer hitters have a nice advantage here today.
My Majesticks are in dead last so I got that going for me.
Crushers and the Fireballs are in the team lead with Ripper and Stinger both one shot back. The individual and the team events are very bunched up.
Sergio Garcia eagles the 10th and he has a one shot lead at 5 under. We might as well bring up the Ryder Cup with Sergio being the all time points leader as a European player and he won’t be in Rome next week despite being worthy. He is probably motivated to show that he belongs on the Ryder Cup team.
Brooks is the only LIV player going to Rome next week. DJ has said that playing on the LIV Tour cost him a spot on the team as well. However, Captain Zach Johnson decided to select a very click-ey team. There is no justification for selecting Justin Thomas after the recent run of form. Kevin Kisner was on the Barstool Podcast and he called it with Keegan Bradley and Cameron Young being left out because they weren’t friends with the right people. This is the country club bullshit that I despise about golf and the reason that I watch and support LIV. It helps that I am not a Ryder Cup fan so you won’t get any coverage of it here at the C Thomas Printer Cooperative because I won’t be watching. Golf having hooligans yelling and screaming and behaving boorishly isn’t in the gentlemanly spirit of the game. The Ryder Cup used to be like that, but over the last 3 decades has turned into a rude display of continental patriotism. With both teams not selecting the best possible teams due to politics gives me even less reason to watch. Many people enjoy the team competition, but I watch LIV so I get to watch team golf every week on LIV. So I’m sure many people will tune in and enjoy, but I won’t be one of them.
Matthew Wolff is now at 6 under and has a one shot lead as the scoreboard is starting to thin out. However, an our of bounds drive led to a double bogey on 3 and he falls back to 4 under and Sergio is again in the lead at 5 under. Dustin Johnson, Louis Oosthuizen, and Anirban Lahiri are just one shot back at 4 under.
There is a party hole at 17 which skirts the left side of the pond. No one has gotten it close so far today though. It is quite an atmosphere with the DJ and stadium seating.
Sergio has company with Louis and Anirban joining him at 5 under. Anirban makes birdie at the 10th and is in the lead at 6 under. #currypower is what I just heard and it made me chuckle.
Sebastian Munoz has gotten it to 5 under. A good round for team Torque with Jacques Niemann at 4 under as well.
Jed Morgan has chipped in twice from the fringe and he is to 5 under. The promotion and relegation situation is getting some attention today and Morgan is right on the edge and he is flying up the leaderboard. This could be a very big week for him.
Anirban misses a par putt on 11 and he falls back to 5 under. The leaderboard has now grouped back together again. 23 players are within 2 shots of the lead. My goodness.
Stingers has the team lead at 13 under, one shot better than Fireball and Crushers. Leann asked Sergio is there was any extra motivation today for Sergio inferring a Ryder Cup snob, but he didn’t take the bait.
The coleader Anirban Lahiri is putting on his last hole and the LIV golf announcer makes a big loud announcement. Anirban was looking around and frankly, it was quite rude, but this is golf, but louder. We will see you tomorrow for moving day.
Well hello there… pour yourself three fingers of the good stuff and sit on down.
Sebastian Munoz makes an early birdie and is your new leader at 6 under par. Anirban Lahiri chips in and eagles the second and jumps to 7 under par.
Kevin Na makes an eagle from the bunker and the fireworks have started on Saturday.
Lahiri and Munoz are both to 8 under with a two shot lead. Niemann is solo second at 6 under.
Graeme McDowell gets not one but two Fuck offs on the hot mic.
Sebastian Munoz holes it on 5 for an eagle and he goes to 10 under, two shots clear of the field.
Dj, Thomas Peters, and Marc Leischman are at 7 under and tied third. Munoz continues to lead at 10 under but has an eagle putt on number 10 and he drains it and he is to 12 under. Three shot lead over Lahiri. This has gotten out of hand quickly. He has Torque in the lead at 19 under as well.
Peters gets it to 8 under and solo third.
Ripper GC is in second on the team competition at 17 under with the Aces one shot behind them.
Anirban makes a birdie and gets to 10 under and within 2 shots of Munoz.
DJ has four lip outs through 11 holes and is 4 shots back. He is playing lovely golf and could also be motivated to show the Ryder Cuppers that his omission was a mistake.
Munoz goes bogey/birdie to stay at 12 under and maintain a 2 shot lead.
Abraham Ancer is on the move and at 7 under. This has propelled the Fireballs to first in the team competition.
Munoz chips in again and is at 13 under. Magic short game today. Torque and Fireballs are tied again at 20 under. DJ makes a birdie finally and is at 8 under with Thomas Pieters.
No sooner than I mention DJ’s struggles but he rolls in a long putt to get to solo third at 9 under.
Sebastian Munoz finishes with a 63 and a 3 shot lead. He will have a good shot to win his first LIV golf title tomorrow.
Torque and Fireball are tied at the top at 22 under with the Crushers and Aces 4 shots behind in the team title.
DJ makes double bogey on the 15th and then bounces back with a birdie on 16. He sits 5 shots back going into tomorrow.
My Majesticks are in 7th and working on a wonderful showing for them.
Well hello there… pour yourself three fingers of the good stuff and sit on down. Sunday Funday starts now in Chicago.
Listening to Mr. Boombastic by Shaggy when Anirban Lahiri is teeing off was quite an eye-opening surprise. I didn’t expect that from #currypower. These young kids are fun to watch.
This Rich Harvest Farms course is in immaculate condition. It is very well manicured and I’ve noticed it has considerable break on the greens.
The Majesticks are in 3rd place, my God folks we are podium worthy at this point. Wow!
DJ is striping the golf ball folks. They have 17 holes left and I think he has a sneaky good chance to win today.
Abraham Ancer is at 9 under and having a wonderful week. He has Fireball in the team lead by 2 shots at 25 under.
Dj and Anirban both get birdies on the par 5 2nd and close the gap by one on Munoz who had to chip down the hill and ran the ball by and only made par.
Munoz pulls his drive left and is in trouble on number 3. He is trying to chip out sideways and he almost gets it back to the fairway. As good as he could do probably. He will have to try and only drop one shot. He has 25 feet or so for par. He lags it up nicely, but drops a shot. He is at 12 under, Anirban at 11 and Ancer and DJ at 9 and Dj had about 15 feet for birdie. Hole 3 is providing drama. DJ misses the putt left.
Munoz hits it short right and has another chip that goes by the hole. He is now tied with Anirban at 11 under. But now Anirban makes birdie and is your leader at 12 under. Ancer has gotten it to 10 under and is on fire right now. Gooch is at 9 under and tied with DJ at 9 under, but now he bogeys and falls to 8 under. Lots of excitement right now.
Anirban is leading at 13 under and Munoz after giving up a couple shots gets one back and is it 12 under. Ancer is at 10 under and Thomas Pieters and DJ are at 9 under.
Henrik Stenson is tied 5th for the Majesticks. Ian Poulter is at 8 under along with Henrik. They are sitting 5th, come on lads!
The Crushers have taken the team lead at 24 under. Anirban and Bryson both having good days today.
Bryson just makes a bomb from 85 feet? For 3 birdies in a row. Crushers are 3 clear in the team race.
Munoz gets a birdie to fall and he ties Anirban for the lead. Back and forth we go… DJ lips out a par putt and he falls back to 7 under and 6 shots back.
Munoz and Lahiri are back at 14 under, but Bryson is moving with 4 birdies in a row and he is carrying the Crushers to the lead at 27 under, but the Fireballs are at 26 under led by Abraham Ancer at 11 under.
Bryson makes a long par putt to keep his momentum going. He and Marc Leischman are tied at 10 under and 4 shots back of our leaders.
Bryson makes another birdie at the party hole 17th. He is at 11 under.
Lahiri is at 14 under with 5 to play, but the man on the move is Bryson DeChambeau and he is at 12 under.
Bryson is perhaps also trying to show the Ryder Cuppies that omitting him was a mistake.
Speaking of mistakes, Anirban just ran his birdie putt 7 feet by and will have a quick par putt coming down the hill. He misses the comebacker and is back to 13 under.
Bryson is heading to number 2, the par 5 playing as the easiest hole on the course.
Marc Leishman has a short birdie putt to get to 12 under. He makes it and is one back with one hole to go.
But the story is DeChambeau, Bryson is in close in 2 on the 2nd hole and will have a makeable eagle putt. He has 24 feet down the hill and is aiming 7 feet right of the hole. He read it perfectly and left it one rotation short. He is tied at 13 under and the lead.
Back to Anirban, he has a 35 footer for birdie over on 16. He leaves his putt about 4 feet short. Munoz is only one back and has a birdie putt himself going straight down the hill. He has 4 feet left.
These are a couple of nervy 4 footers for Anirban and Munoz. Anirban makes his and so does Munoz. They head to the 17th party hole.
Leishman damn nears holes his second on 1, within a couple inches and he has a very makeable birdie putt. Anirban has to use the drop circle on 17 and he chips it dead and remains level with Bryson. Sebastian chips his 8 feet by. He misses the putt and is likely done.
Bryson is in the middle of the fairway on 1 and he hits it to 15 feet for the lead.
Leishman hits a terrible putt offline and short so he will stay at 12 under.
The lead group are teeing off on 18 now. Anirban stripes one right down the middle.
Bryson for the lead… from 14 feet. He leaves the putt just short and right. Great showing and now it is up to Anirban, if he birdies he wins. If he makes bogey or worse he loses. The Crushers have own the team title.
Anirban just misses the green, but should be able to get up and down. Can he make it and walk it off? He leaves it 5-6 feet short. Sunday pressure on the lag putts down the stretch…. Munoz and Lahiri have both been a little unsure. Munoz makes a great putt from 7 feet to finish solo 4th at 11 under.
Huge par putt for Lahiri and he misses it left. Bryson wins from 8 shots back and the Crushers win.
That’s all for today folks. Next up is Jeddah.
Insightfully yours,
G Spot Johnson
